It’s a community with a quaint historical name and a very hip modern-day reputation.
Bucktown condos are located in a special part of town, a neighborhood originally named for the male goats (bucks) that early residents kept but is now home to what boosters claim is the largest arts community in the Midwest.
Like many such communities with a large arts presence, you’ll find boutiques, eclectic dining spots, bars, pubs, shabby chic shops and galleries in Bucktown. You’ll also find restored properties, converted industrial sites, teardowns and a heightened interest in real estate and development in general. And did we mention lots and lots of condominiums?
Where is Bucktown? It’s a near-Northwest Side neighborhood bounded by Fullerton Avenue (2400 North) on the north, North Avenue (1600 North) on the south, Western Avenue (2400 West) on the west and the Chicago River on the east. The Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) cuts through the eastern portion of the neighborhood.
Bucktown condos can be found in a variety of prices, sizes and styles, ranging from the mid-$100Ks to $600,000 and more. Buyers will love the variety, which includes vintage brick properties, new construction and industrial conversions.
The emergence and acceleration of Bucktown as one of Chicago’s more notable neighborhoods can probably be most easily traced to the increased popularity and prices of the communities to the east, Including Lincoln Park, and to the north, including Lakeview. People naturally began to expand their searches as the other neighborhoods became hotter and higher-priced.
In Bucktown not very many years ago, potential buyers found an older community that for the most part had not seen much interest from people beyond the general area. As interest picked up, many of the existing two-flats and multi-unit properties were rehabbed and converted to condos. There have also been teardowns of older buildings for new condos and single family houses.
The location of Bucktown makes it an ideal choice for a variety of Chicago real estate buyers, thanks to easy access to the expressway and the CTA rapid transit service. Bucktown is located directly north of Wicker Park, which has a citywide reputation for arts, dining, entertainment and a vibrant street scene. The neighborhoods have redeveloped at about the same time and pace, making them seem like continuous communities in the eyes of many, despite their very distinct identities.
