ANDERSONVILLE CONDOS

Andersonville condos are located in one of Chicago’s quintessential neighborhoods.

Quintessential because of the variety of housing, the bustling business strip of independent shops, the easy accessibility of public transportation, the “walkability” of the neighborhood that doesn’t require a car to get around, and more.

It’s the type of living that many people remember and long for in the city neighborhoods before the migration of population and businesses to the suburbs.

“Discover the small-town charm of the Andersonville neighborhood,” boasts a community website. And indeed, the appeal of this vibrant city community has resonated with many people.

The neighborhood takes its name from the Swedish immigrants who originally settled the area, and substantial Swedish culture and identity still remain. Andersonville has become one of Chicago’s “hot” neighborhoods and has a diverse population representing age, ethnicity, family status and sexual orientation.

Andersonville condos are primarily found in one- , two- and three-bedroom styles, often vintage rehabbed conversions and sometimes new construction condominiums. The pace of rehab and reinvestment into the neighborhood by local residents has been intense in recent years.

The boundaries of Andersonville are often not precisely defined. Andersonville traditionally has been a neighborhood within the greater Edgewater community. Like many Chicago neighborhoods whose popularity is growing, common reference tends to push the boundaries out a little further with the passage of time as more and more residents, businesses and organizations desire to be connected with a popular neighborhood.

But currently, the boundaries of Andersonville are generally regarded as Broadway (1200 West) on the east, Ravenswood Avenue (1800 West) on the west, Winnemac Avenue (5230 North on the south) and Elmdale Street (6000 North) on the north.

The heart of the Andersonville commercial district is approximately 5300 North and Clark Street (Clark and Berwyn.) Events and activities in this busy neighborhood include a Midsommarfest in June; home tour; sidewalk sale; Taste of Andersonville; farmers market; wine walk; festival of lights and more. These events, combined with a healthy entertainment and night-life scene, pretty much guarantee that there’s always something to do in Andersonville.
